Etobicoke Rugby Football Club PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mike Dwhytie
Friday, 08 January 2010
This message is being sent to anyone who may be interested in helping establish the "Etobicoke Rugby Football Club" in 2010. Please forward it to any others who you think could be interested.

Our goal is to establish a strong community based club for the development, promotion and playing of Rugby Football in the former City of Etobicoke, by male and female participants of all ages and competitive or recreational interests.

The Etobicoke RFC will strive to provide a quality rugby experience for all participants by developing a program consistent with the Rugby Ontario "Seal of Approval" criteria.

The establishment of a strong local rugby club in Etobicoke is necessary to support the growth and development of the programs that have started up in recent years at several area high schools - Martingrove, Lakeshore, Bishop Allen, Etobicoke, Weston, Michael Power - and to encourage others to join in.

Our plan for 2010 would be to field teams in the TRU / ORU junior leagues at U16 and U18, and possibly organize several exhibition fixtures for a senior team. The proposed name for our teams is the "Ospreys" ( after the Welsh Magners League team.)

Anyone interested in participating in this rugby club as a player, coach, or supporter is encouraged to contact us or come to an organizational meeting planned for:

    Wednesday January 27, 2010  -  7:00PM

Location:   Etobicoke Olympium, 590 Rathburn Road
                     Committee Room B  (Upstairs)

Please check our website at: etobicokerugby.net for future updates.

Playing university rugby at York PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jose Duarte

Attention Female High School Rugby Players and Coaches!

This message is for those of you who are keen to play university level rugby after graduating from high school.  York University is actively trying to improve its program through the recruitment of talented high school and club rugby players.  The York team is young and improving and there will be legitimate opportunity to make the weekly starting 22 selections in your first year at York and help share in the success of the program going forward.

We currently have players from the Saracens, Yoemen, Barbs, Nomads, Beavers, and Balmy Beach in the York program.  With the incredible depth of talent in the GTA for women’s rugby I feel that York should be showing better in the OUA standings.  I invite the grade 12 graduates of Toronto area high schools to come to York and show the rest of the OUA that the best female rugby players in the province play in Toronto.

If you are interested in playing university rugby at York please feel free to contact either Joe Costello ( This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) or Bob Periard ( This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) for more details or visit http://www.sport.yorku.ca/interuniversity_sport/teams/rugby_w/index.asp and take a look.

There is also an opportunity for incoming students to obtain a financial athletic award which will last your 4 years of university, subject to maintaining a quality academic result.

So if playing university rugby interests you and playing on a university team where you have a good chance of getting playing time from year one – I encourage you to choose York as one of your post secondary choices and keep us in mind.

Any coaches that feel they currently have OUA caliber rugby players on their teams or are interested – I would be happy to hear from you to organize either a meeting or possibly running a practice session with your squad.

I hope to hear from you.

Regards,

Joe Costello
Coach – York Women’s Rugby
