Toronto Saracens wish to thank the Toronto Arrows for their very generous support
|The Toronto Saracens wish to thank the Toronto Arrows for their very generous support and assistance provided to the Saracens Women in their quest to compete in the national women’s club competition.
This August’s tournament is the first ever set of final games to determine the top women’s club rugby squad in Canada, as part of the annual Canadian Rugby Club Championship (CRCC), sponsored by the Canadian Rugby Foundation.
The Saracens qualified for the CRCC tournament by winning the Ontario Women’s League in 2018 (Saracens have won the league in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and have been Rugby Ontario Cup Champions in 2015, 2017 and 2018)

Saracens Women’s Club Captain, Petra Woods, had this to say:
- “We’ve been gelling over the past few years and the entire Saracens squad are really looking forward to this opportunity to showcase the quality of our rugby against the best women’s club teams in Canada.
- We’re definitely proud to represent Toronto and Ontario rugby in this tournament, and very thankful for the generous support of the Toronto Arrows in helping make this a reality”
Toronto Saracens President, Pooya Jalali, commented:
- “The Saracens Women teams have been very strong competitors over the past 3 years. This is a testament to the athletes and coaches efforts to build a long-standing successful club here in Ontario.
- In creating this competition, the organization of the CRCC is certainly helping to build the grass roots of rugby here in Canada and helping to showcase some of the talent available locally throughout Canada!
- We are very fortunate that the Toronto Arrows have assisted the Saracen Women’s entry into this historical first ever Women’s national club competition and we’re doubly fortunate that this opportunity lands on our 65th anniversary as a rugby club in Ontario!
- The Arrows are also supporting the entire CRCC to help reduce financial demands on all participants. This generosity certainly illustrates the Arrows commitment to both supporting the rugby community as well to help grow the game.”
Games will be played on Aug 2 (5 & 7pm) & 4 (noon & 2pm), 2019, at Fletchers Fields, in Markham, and will feature the top 4 clubs in Canada: Capilanos RFC (BC), Charlottetown RFC (PEI), Club de Rugby de Québec (QC), and Toronto Saracens RFC (ON).
Toronto Saracens RFC (celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2019) was formed from the sum of players branching out from the Toronto Irish, Nomads and Barbarians. The Toronto Saracens was initially formed in 1953, but formally established in 1954. Since then, the Saracens have won the Carling Cup twice (1959 and 1977), the Pony Bowl (1982) and the Old Vienna Cup (Marshall Trophy) (1983). In the past decade, the Saracens have been noted for their very strong junior development programmes and the highly competitive Senior Women’s programme. We are one of the original investors in the “Home of Ontario Rugby” Fletchers’ Fields, which is our home field.
