Named in Honour of former Toronto President Todd Russell

Todd Russell was president of Toronto Rugby from 1999 to about 2007. He became president during a very challenging period in the Toronto Rugby history when there were some serious financial challenges. A number of new directors joined the board at the same time and under Todd’s leadership, the finances were cleaned up and a healthy cash balance was established which exists today.

In addition, with the new board, a large number of administrative initiatives were organized and new policies developed, many of which have been used by other Rugby organizations. These included registration, pay on the day, conflict of interest and many others which are still in use today.

Todd was a member of the Brampton Beavers, played his varsity Rugby at Guelph and coached the Brampton women in the OWL during the late 90’s to the early 2000’s. He was also the provincial senior women’s coach for a number of years. After leaving Brampton, he was instrumental in starting the Caledon’s women’s team and coached them for several years.

During this period, Todd was also a referee at all levels within Toronto Rugby as well as working with a number of high schools.
