SENIOR WOMEN’S & MEN’S REP RUGBY RETURNS TO THE TRU
The Toronto Rugby Union is proud to announce the launch of Senior Women’s & Men’s Representative XV rugby teams for the 2022 season.
The goal of the TRU Senior ‘Reds’ program is to offer rugby athletes the ability to play representative rugby without the need for a massive personal time commitment to training above and beyond their club duties. Traditional senior rep programs tend to focus on the younger adult players, however the Reds program will be looking at players of all ages and especially those mature players who may not have played representative rugby at a younger age or have been late developers, but now have the skills and ability to play at a high level.
The Toronto Rugby Union wishes to offer athletes of its member clubs the ability to not only have the opportunity to collect representative honours on behalf of themselves and their club, but also the chance follow the pathway to play higher levels of representative rugby.
In developing this program the TRU is grateful for the assistance and support Rugby Ontario has provided and looks forward to their continued partnership in developing the program and providing the opportunity for the program’s athletes to be scouted to represent Rugby Ontario in full Provincial Team fixtures.
Other Rugby Ontario branch unions are developing their own senior players rep programs and hope to launch in 2022 as well.
The Senior Reds 2022 program will consist of seven training sessions spread throughout the season, two of which will be try-outs in the spring. Fixtures will consist of a summer match versus a high level touring squad or another representative team, as well as a late summer or fall tournament involving other branch union representative teams. Watch for try-outs to be announced!
