TORONTO ELITE REDS ANNOUNCE APPOINTMENTS OF ACADEMY MANAGER, COACHES

TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Elite Reds Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Gasbarino as manager for the program’s men’s and women’s teams.

Gasbarino joins the Academy with several years’ experience working within the Canadian rugby community, principally as a Community Manager and Content Editor with Aedelhard Sport Culture Inc., and has showcased Canadian rugby extensively through her successful @RugbyCAN_ account on Twitter.

“Karen is such a strong addition to our team, and will make an immediate impact on our athletes and the Academy,” said John Pryce, Toronto Rugby Director of High Performance. “Karen’s passion for rugby is second to none, and has been a tireless ambassador for our sport and its core values. Her involvement will make the Reds stronger.”

The Elite Reds are also excited to announce the appointments of Darren Ince and Shelley Ince as coaches for the Academy’s teams.

Darren began coaching with Markham RFC in 1999, and has coached with the Ajax Wanderers since 2013, where he leads the development of the club’s girls’ junior program. He also has served as a coach with Ontario Blues provincial under-16 girls’ program.

Shelley played for Markham RFC’s senior women’s team for more than 20 years between 1988- 2008, and served as club captain for 14 seasons. She also has coached with the Ajax Wanderers girls’ junior program since 2013.

The husband and wife duo notably revived the girls rugby program at Henry Street High School (Whitby, Ont.) in 2016, where they continue to coach to this day.

“We’re very excited that Darren and Shelley are bringing their wealth of rugby experience to the Elite Reds program,” added Pryce. “Our athletes will benefit from their outstanding technical knowledge of the game. Darren and Shelley both possess a dedication for the sport that translates very well to their players, and will key additions to inspire growth in our athletes.”

Toronto Elite Reds’ men’s and women’s teams will kick off their 2019 competitive seasons with an upcoming tour to the Tropical Sevens international youth tournament in Orlando, FL. The Elite Reds teams’ Tropical Sevens campaigns begin on Apr. 19, 2019; match schedules will be released by tournament officials in the coming weeks.
